Sequence.js is a general name for the product as a whole, including but not limited to the Sequence.js Library, Sequence.js Themes, and the sequencejs.com website.

When referring to a Sequence.js license, that license applies to the Sequence.js Library only. Sequence.js Themes are licensed separately.

Sequence.js Library Licenses

The Sequence.js Library is made available under three different licenses:

Personal/Open-Source License

The Sequence.js Library is made available under a GPLv3 license for open-source and personal projects.

GPLv3 license Summary:

The GPLv3 allows others to copy, distribute and modify the software as long as they state what has been changed when, and ensure that any modifications are also licensed under the GPL. Software incorporating (via compiler) GPL-licensed code must also be made also available under the GPLv3 along with build & install instructions.

Commercial License

A commercial license grants you the right to use the Sequence.js Library in ONE commercial application, for example:

  • A client’s website
  • A premium theme/template for WordPress, Tumblr, ThemeForest etc
  • A premium Sequence.js theme

You must purchase a commercial license for each project you plan to integrate the Sequence.js Library.

Your end users do not need to purchase a license, providing they are not creating their own commercial applications. If this is the case, please see the Commercial OEM License.

A commercial license can be purchased here, or at the same time as purchasing a Sequence.js Theme from the Theme Store. Payment is made via PayPal. Upon completion of your payment, your license will be automatically emailed to the address you provide at checkout in a PDF format. This process is usually instant but if you don’t receive your license within 10 minutes, please check your spam folder before contacting us.

Commercial licenses are priced based on the number of developers working on your application.

Sequence.js Themes Licenses

An official Sequence.js Theme is one made available by the Sequence.js team in, but not limited to, the Sequence.js Theme Store. Other unofficial third-party Sequence.js themes may be available elsewhere, please respect their licenses accordingly.

As they are powered by the Sequence.js Library, in using a Sequence.js Theme, you will also require a separate Sequence.js Library license. When downloading a Sequence.js Theme from the Theme Store, you will be asked to choose a Sequence.js Library license at the same time.

Official Sequence.js Themes are made available under one of two licenses:

Themes in the free section of the Theme Store have a Personal/Open-Source license, and those in the premium section have a Premium license. A theme’s product page will also show which license it has.

Free Theme License

As with the Sequence.js Library, when using free themes in a personal or open-source project, you can distribute, modify, and/or integrate under a GPLv3 license.

Premium Theme License

A Premium Theme License grants you the right to use a premium theme in ONE commercial application, for example:

  • Your portfolio website
  • A client’s website

Premium themes may not be redistributed. This means you may sell premium official Sequence.js themes integrated as part of an application being sold once, such as those listed above, but not as part of a product that can be sold more than once, such as a website template being sold on ThemeForest.

When purchasing a premium theme from the Theme Store, your license will be included with the theme files in a PDF format. Payment for themes is made via PayPal. Upon completion of your payment, your theme files will be automatically emailed to the address you provide at checkout. This process is usually instant but if you don’t receive your theme within 10 minutes, please check your spam folder before contacting us.

FAQ

The following are frequently asked questions about licenses and our responses. If you have a question not answered here, please contact us.

Can I sell official Sequence.js themes individually?

No. Regardless of whether you modify an official Sequence.js theme or not, you can not sell free or premium themes individually.

You may use HTML and CSS from free Sequence.js themes as a base for your own themes that you wish to sell, but no other assets and the end result must significantly differ.

Can I sell official Sequence.js themes as part of a commercial product/application?

You may sell free official Sequence.js themes integrated as part of a commercial application (such as a client website or website template), providing you have acquired a Sequence.js Library Commercial License.

Premium themes may not be redistributed. This means you may sell premium official Sequence.js themes integrated as part of a commercial application being sold once, such as in a client’s website, but not as part of a product that can be sold more than once, such as a website template.

You may not sell official Sequence.js themes individually.

Can I give away free Sequence.js themes I have made myself?

Yes, your theme can be licensed as you see fit. The Sequence.js Library will still be licensed under GPLv3. If those receiving your free theme use it for commercial purposes though, they will need a Sequence.js Library Commercial License.

Can I sell Sequence.js themes I have made myself?

Yes, providing you have acquired a Sequence.js Library Commercial License.

Can I use a free theme with a Commercial Sequence.js Library License?

Yes, you may wish to do this when integrating the Sequence.js Library into:

  • A paying client’s website with a free Sequence.js theme
  • A premium WordPress theme using a free Sequence.js theme

The Sequence.js Library will remain under the terms set out in your Sequence.js Library Commercial License, and the theme will still be licensed under GPLv3.

Can I use a premium theme with a Personal/Open-Source Sequence.js Library License

Premium themes may not be redistributed. For this reason, you may use a premium theme on a personal website that won’t be redistributed, but you may not include the premium theme in an open-source project.

The Sequence.js Library will remain under the terms set out in the Personal/Open-source License, and the theme will still be licensed under your Premium Theme License.

Can you help me determine which license(s) I need?

Sure! Please contact us. Specify how you intend to use Sequence.js (personally/commerically), which theme you’d like to use (if any), and we’ll get back to you with a clear description of the right license for you.
